
David B. Wheeler founded Protocol International, Inc., a marketing and event management firm in 1991 in Chicago. This firm specialized in high level travel management, corporate hospitality and managing meetings and events for corporate and government clients. During Wheeler's tenure as President, he was responsible for the firm's involvement in more than 1,000 projects in 35 countries, and developed client relationships with BP Amoco, Motorola, Hoffman LaRoche, Monsanto, Abbott Laboratories, Oracle, Lucent Technologies, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, John Deere, Lufthansa German Airlines and others. In addition, his firm coordinated more Head of State or Presidents visits to USA for China, India, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Chile, Mongolia, Canada, Mexico, Singapore and Malaysia. In December 1998, David sold Protocol International, Inc. and stayed on with the new owners through 1999.
In November 1999, David formed a new venture with Mr. Tim Hailstone (London) and Dr. David C. Wheeler (Toronto and no relation to David B) and formed WHW International. Senator George J. Mitchell was a senior adviser to the company. WHW was formed to pursue a large transaction to acquire a UK based company.
In 2001, David founded Protocol Group, Inc. PGI provided strategy, planning and implementation services for events and communication forums throughout the world for clients AARP, AstraZeneca, National Health Policy Council, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, Aventis Pharmaceuticals, WebMD, Motorola and others. PGI produced five televised forums on healthcare for the 2004 presidential candidate election cycle that included all the Democratic presidential candidates and representatives of the Bush campaign and a 2006 series featuring Governor candidates in four states. Protocol Group was sold to Ambassadors LLC, founded by Peter Ueberroth (CEO of 1988 Los Angeles Olympics).
In 2005, David joined the senior management team as Senior Vice President of Ambassadors LLC (NASDAQ: AMIE). Ambassadors is the largest public company in the meeting, conference and event services industry. David managed sales efforts for the company and focused on developing additional revenue by creating new events owned by Ambassadors. David was able to increase incremental revenue significantly during his tenure. David led a team that managed a 100 person delegation to China and Korean for the University of Southern California's Board of Trustees and senior administration and created three highly successful large events including the Lance Armstrong Foundation's Presidential Cancer Forums.
In 2007, David went back to his entrepreneurial roots and formed Embark LLC (www.embarkteam.com). This firm focuses on consulting with organizations on policy events and government relations forums. In addition, Embark is undertaking the creation of several new owned events in the UAE and China including Tech Transfer Today Forum (www.t3forums.com) in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai International Basketball Cup in Shanghai.
Along with an appointment by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley to serve on the Chicago-Galway Sister Cities Committee, David is involved in other Chicago area business and charitable activities. David is proud of his involvement in more than 20 campaigns in the U.S. and continues his involvement today. David graduated from the University of Iowa in 1987 with a major in political science and an emphasis in economics.
